Further decomposition of a "very massive" star.

HEYDARI-MALAYERI M. and BEUZIT J.-L.

Abstract (from CDS):

Once believed to be one of the most massive stars with a mass over 120M☉, the LMC Sk-66 41 was resolved into six stars in 1988, the main component having a mass of ∼90M☉. New observations presented here, carried out at ESO using adaptive optics diffraction-limited images (Come-On-Plus), resolve Sk-66 41 into at least 12 components. The new, brightest component has a ZAMS mass of ∼50M☉ and a present mass of ∼35M☉. This result has important implications for the theories of massive star formation.
