Abstract (from CDS):

During November 1994, the OSSE instrument on board CGRO observed the low-mass X-ray binary GS 1826-24. This source has been previously detected by Ginga and TTM, but has not been reported in the OSSE band. During this observation, OSSE detected this source at approximately 7 standard deviations significance. The resulting spectrum, after subtracting an estimate of the galactic diffuse emission contribution, is consistent with a power law with photon index ~-3. Fit together with the Ginga spectrum, the source can be represented by an exponentially cutoff power law with a reflection term. The observed cutoff energy (∼58keV) may indicate that GS 1826-24 is a neutron star system rather than a black hole candidate as previously thought.
