Abstract (from CDS):
Further to IAUC 8037, T. Puckett and L. Cox report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.2) on an unfiltered CCD frame (limiting mag 19.0) taken on Oct. 13.13 UT (and confirmed on CCD frames taken by Cox on Oct. 16.07). SN 2003it, located at R.A. = 0h05m48s.47, Decl. = +27o27'09".6 (equinox 2000.0), or 1".2 east and 11".3 north of the center of UGC 40, was not present on 1991-1993 Palomar Sky Survey images.
