Supernovae 2009C and 2009D.

CHALLIS P. and CALKINS M.

Abstract (from CDS):

P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that a spectrum (range 320-850 nm) of obtained on Jan. 3 UT by M. Calkins with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows 2009C to be a type-IIb supernova; cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra, using the "Supernova Identification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024), indicates that 2009C is about a week past maximum light. Spectra of 2009D, taken as above by Calkins on Jan. 3 UT, shows 2009D to be a type-Ia supernova about a week before maximum light.
