The new object was confirmed at mag 16.1 on images (limiting mag 18.9) taken by T. Orff on Jan. 29.43 with a 0.40-m reflector at Portal. SN 2009P is located at R.A. = 11h20m38s.78, Decl. = -3o32'46".3 (equinox 2000.0), which is 2".7 east and 0".2 south of the center of the apparent host galaxy.
