Supernovae 2009K and 2009Z.

STRITZINGER M. and MORRELL N.

Abstract (from CDS):

M. Stritzinger and N. Morrell, Las Campanas Observatory (LCO), on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report that a spectrogram (range 380-940 nm) of supernova 2009K (cf. CBET 1665), taken on Jan. 22 UT with the 6.5-m Magellan II (Clay) telecope (+ LDSS3), reveals that this object is a type-IIb supernova. Comparison with a library of spectra via the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows this event to be most similar to supernova 1993J a few days prior to maximum. This is confirmed with a spectrogram taken on Feb. 8, which is most similar to 1993J at two weeks past maximum.
