G. Pignata, J. Maza, M. Hamuy, R. Antezana, L. Gonzalez, P. Gonzalez, P. Lopez, S. Silva, G. Folatelli, D. Iturra, R. Cartier, F. Forster, S. Marchi, and A. Rojas, Universidad de Chile; B. Conuel, Wesleyan University; and D. Reichart, K. Ivarsen, A. Crain, D. Foster, M. Nysewander, and A. LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 16.5 ± 0.2) on an R-band image taken on June 8.18 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 4' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object, which is also present in an image taken on June 8.97 at mag approximately 16.4 ± 0.2, is located at R.A. = 16:54:48.37 ± 0".1, Decl. = -72:34:56.0 ± 0".1 (equinox 2000), which is about 40".6 west and 17".8 north of the center of the galaxy NGC 6209. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on Apr. 27.24 and May 13.36 (limiting mag 19.0). NGC 6209 was also the host galaxy of the type-Ia supernova 1998cx (cf. IAUC 6970).
