Abstract (from CDS):

J. M. Silverman, M. T. Kandrashoff, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 340-1020 nm), obtained on July 16 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that SN 2009ha (CBET 1865) is a type-Ib supernova near maximum light. SN 2009he (CBET 1868) is a type-Ia supernova, likely a 1991bg-like (e.g., Filippenko et al. 1992, A.J., 104, 1543) event; after removing the host-galaxy recession velocity (9188 km/s; Falco et al. 1999, The Updated Zwicky Catalog), the absorption minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm feature is found to be blueshifted by about 9600 km/s. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that it is about one week past maximum light. SN 2009hf (CBET 1869) is a type-IIP supernova. After removing the host-galaxy recession velocity (3910 km/s; Chengalur et al. 1993, Dynamics of Binary Galaxies), the absorption minimum of the H-alpha line is found to be blueshifted by about 10100 km/s, although the emission component greatly dominates.

SN 2009hi (CBET 1872) is a normal type-Ia supernova. After removing the host-galaxy recession velocity (12327 km/s; Wegner et al. 1999, The Peculiar Motions of Early-Type Galaxies in Two Distant Regions), the absorption minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm feature is found to be blue- shifted by about 12000 km/s. SNID indicates that it is at maximum light.

A low-signal-to-noise ratio spectrum with lots of host galaxy contamination indicates that SN 2009hj (CBET 1873) is a type-II supernova. After removing the host-galaxy recession velocity (11378 km/s), as determined from narrow emission lines, the absorption minimum of the H-alpha line is found to be blueshifted by about 5400 km/s. SN 2009hk (CBET 1875) is normal type-Ia supernova, and SNID indicates that it is about one month past maximum light.
