Abstract (from CDS):

J. M. Silverman, M. T. Kandrashoff, A. J. L. Morton, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a low-signal-to-noise-ratio CCD spectrum (range 380-980 nm), obtained on Nov. 18 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2009ld is a type-II supernova; H-alpha emission is much stronger than the absorption component. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that SN 2009ld is most similar to the type-IIP supernova 2004et about nine days past maximum brightness. Narrow emission features from the supernova's host galaxy reveal it to have a recession velocity of about 7600 km/s.
