Abstract (from CDS):
S. Ryder, Anglo-Australian Observatory; S. Mattila, Tuorla Observatory; E. Kankare, Nordic Optical Telescope; and M. Perez-Torres, Instituto de Astrofisica de Andalucia, report that they obtained low-resolution spectroscopy of 2010P (cf. CBET 2145) on Feb. 11.5 UT using the Gemini North 8-m telescope (+ GMOS; range 470-890 nm). Despite significant reddening, the spectrum is found to be consistent with a H-deficient core-collapse supernova. Comparison with a library of supernova spectra using both the "GELATO" code (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and the "SuperNova IDentification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) yields good matches to several type-Ib and type-IIb supernovae between 1 and 3 weeks after maximum light, when the spectrum of 2010P is dereddened by the equivalent of 5 mag of extinction in the V band (cf. CBET 2149). Near-infrared photometric and radio monitoring of both supernovae 2010P and 2010O (cf. CBETs 2143, 2144, 2149) is continuing.
