Supernova 2011U in UGC 2985.

MILISAVLJEVIC D., PARRENT J. and FESEN R.

Abstract (from CDS):

D. Milisavljevic, J. Parrent, and R. Fesen, Dartmouth College, report on low-dispersion spectra (range 430-780 nm) taken on Feb. 2 and 3 UT with the 2.4-m Hiltner telescope (+ CCDS) at MDM Observatory. PSN J04133394+2732367 = SN 2011U is a type-Ia supernova. Comparison with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" tool (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ. 666, 1024) provides a reasonable match to type-Ia normal supernova events at a few days before maximum light. The spectra indicate significant reddening, and host-galaxy H-alpha emission indicates a recessional velocity of 3800 km/s.
