Supernova 2011fi in NGC 1954.
CAPPELLARO E., BENETTI S., PASTORELLO A. and BUFANO F.
Abstract (from CDS):
E. Cappellaro, S. Benetti, and A. Pastorello, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova; and F. Bufano, INAF, Osservatorio Astronomico di Catania, on behalf of a larger collaboration, report that a spectrum of 2011?? (cf. CBET 2800), obtained on Sept. 6.4 UT with the New Technology Telescope (+ EFOSC2; range 360-930 nm; resolution 1.8 nm) shows it to be a type-II supernova. The best fit to this spectrum found by GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383; publicly available at
https://gelato.tng.iac.es) are with spectra of type-II-plateau supernovae at about 60-80 days post-explosion, adopting a recession velocity of 3130 km/s for NGC 1954 (de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991, RC3.9; via NED). Together with the classical P-Cyg Balmer features, prominent lines of Ca II, Fe II, Ti II, Sc II, and Ba II are detected. The presence of a weak [Ca II] emission at 729.1-732.4 nm confirm that the supernova is observed in the late photospheric phase.
