CORTINI G.

Abstract (from CDS):

Giancarlo Cortini, Predappio, Italy, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.5) on several unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 18.5) taken on Dec. 22.833 UT with a Celestron 14 telescope (+ SXVR-H9 camera). The new object is located at R.A. = 2:38:54.61, Decl. = +27:50:48.7 (equinox 2000.0), which is 3" east and 1" south of the center of UGC 2134. Nothing is visible at this position on Cortini's images from Oct. 15.90 and Nov. 20.88 (limiting mag 18.5) or on the Palomar Sky Survey (red and blue plates). The variable was designated PSN J02385461+2750487 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011jf based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below.
