CIABATTARI F., MAZZONI E. and BRIMACOMBE J.

Abstract (from CDS):

F. Ciabattari and E. Mazzoni, Borgo a Mozzano, Italy, report their discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.8) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19) obtained on Sept. 9.12 and 10.16 UT with a 0.5-m Newtonian telescope in the course of the Italian Supernovae Search Project. The new object is located at R.A. = 4:07:25.28, Decl. = +1:45:33.3 (equinox 2000.0; astrometry with respect to UCAC-2 stars), which is 24" west and 7" south of the center of the galaxy PGC 14498 = MCG +00-11-12. The variable was designated PSN J04072528+0145333 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2012en based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Additional magnitudes for 2012en: 1991 Oct. 14, [20.3 (Palomar Sky Survey, J plate, via Digitized Sky Survey; reported by Ciabattari); 1995 Oct. 18, [20.3 (POSS, F plate, via DSS; reported by Ciabattari); 2012 Sept. 11.426, 18.3 (Joseph Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia; luminance filter; position end figures 25s.12, 32".4; image posted at website URL http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/7978210149/).
