Supernova 2010mb.
BEN-AMI S., GAL-YAM A. and QUIMBY R.
Abstract (from CDS):
Sagi Ben-Ami, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, reports the discovery of a supernova (mag about 21.4) on two r-band CCD images (limiting mag 21.5) taken on 2010 Apr. 10.34 UT taken with the 1.2-m Oschin telescope at Palomar Observatory in the course of the "Palomar Transient Factory" search. The new object is located at R.A. = 16:00:23.10, Decl. = +37:44:57.0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 4" west and 3" north of the nucleus of the presumed host galaxy, SDSS J160023.23+374454.8. The object was not detected in an image from 2010 Mar. 18.5 (limiting mag 21.7). S. Ben-Ami, A. Gal-Yam, and R. Quimby report that optical spectroscopy (range 350-1000 nm; resolution 2.5 nm), obtained on 2010 June 8 UT with the Hale 5-m telescope showed that 2010mb was then a type-Ic supernova about 75 days after the explosion at a redshift z = 0.1325, similar to SN 1995F (Matheson et al. 2000, A.J. 121, 1648). The Hale classification spectra are posted at the following website URL:
http://www.weizmann.ac.il/astrophysics/wiserep/; classification was made via SUPERFIT (Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1180).
