New TESS Secondary Eclipses Confirm Orbital Decay of Kepler-1658b.

SHEN Z.

Abstract (from CDS):

I present new primary and secondary eclipse timing measurements for the hot Jupiter Kepler-1658b from TESS Sectors 74, 75, 81, and 82. Joint analysis of these measurements with historical Kepler data and radial velocity observations confirms orbital decay with rate $\dot{P}=(-3.423\pm 0.458)\times 1{0}^{-4}$ s day–1. The detection of secondary eclipses in TESS data provides independent confirmation of decay over precession models (BIC = - 364.3, ${\chi }_{\nu }^{2}=1.51$), yielding a stellar tidal quality factor ${Q}_{\star }^{{\prime} }=(-2.27\pm 0.85)\times 1{0}^{4}$. These measurements strengthen the case for rapid tidal inspiral in this evolved system.
