Abstract (from CDS):

We report the detection of faint spiral-like features in the lenticular galaxy NGC 5273 through residual analysis of archival Spitzer/IRAC images at 3.6 and 8.0 μm. After subtracting smooth elliptical models from each image, the residual at 3.6 μm reveals symmetric, low-surface-brightness spiral arms surrounding the nucleus. In contrast, the 8.0 μm residual map shows only weak central structure, suggesting that the spiral-like features are stellar in origin rather than associated with warm dust or from an old stellar population. This highlights the utility of infrared residual imaging in uncovering hidden disk structure in early-type galaxies.
