Determination of the Abundance of Mercury from the Hg II Line at 5677.10 Å in Late B-type Stars. XXVI. HD 173524 B (46 Dra B).

Abstract (from CDS):

The weak line of Hg II located at 5677.10 Å is used to measure the mercury abundance in the least massive component of the SB2 HgMn star HD 173524 (46 Dra B). This line is detected at 3σ above the noise in the adjacent continuum. The synthesis of this line confirms a large overabundance of mercury, about +5.00 dex, which remains lower than the excess derived from the 3983.93 Å line in earlier studies. Spectrum synthesis yields estimates of the abundance deficiencies/excesses for 17 other elements. The following excesses/deficiencies are found: helium (-1.70 dex), carbon (-0.70), oxygen (-0.70), magnesium (-1.30), aluminium (-0.70), silicon (-0.22), phosphorus (+0.60), sulfur (-0.30), calcium (0.00), titanium (0.00), chromium (-0.07), manganese (0.15), iron (-0.70), gallium (+2.00), strontium (+0.70), barium (+1.00), platinum (+3.95). These abundances differ for most elements from those derived recently for 46 Dra A using the same spectra and the same analysis technique.
