Determination of the Abundance of Mercury from the Hg II Line at 5677.10 Å in Late B-type Stars. XXIX. HD 71066 (κ2 Vel).

MONIER R.

Abstract (from CDS):

The weak line of Hg II located at 5677.10 Å is used to measure the mercury abundance in the sharp-lined B9 SiMn star HD 71066. This line is detected at 3σ above the noise in the adjacent continuum. The synthesis of this line confirms a large overabundance of mercury, about +4.88 dex, which remains smaller than the excess, +5.30 dex, derived from the other two Hg II lines at 3983.93 and 6149.47 Å. Spectrum synthesis yields estimates of the abundance deficiencies/excesses or upper limits (u.l) for 28 other elements. The overall abundance pattern is that most light elements up to scandium are deficient (except for Si, P and Ca), the iron-peak elements are all overabundant (except for vanadium, cobalt and nickel). Gallium has a solar abundance whereas xenon is very overabundant. Praseodymium and neodymium are overabundant too.
