Search for magnetic fields in late-type giants.

Abstract (from CDS):
We present the results of magnetic field measurements for 13 bright giants of different X-ray luminosity, obtained by means of the Babcock-technique. For the giants γ Tau, ε Tau, ε Leo and ξ Her the measured mean longitudinal magnetic field exceeds the corresponding mean error by at least a factor of 3 on one occasion, each. Possible correlations between the detectability of a magnetic field and the X-ray luminosity as well as a general understanding of our results within the physics of stellar activity are discussed.
