Abstract (from CDS):

HD 79968 has been known for some time as a spectroscopic binary, but the orbit of this system remained unknown until now. Our observations, carried out at Observatoire de Haute-Provence with the CORAVEL spectrometer, lead to the following orbital elements: P=30.50253days; T=2448008.696JD; ω= 65o.8; e=0.187; K1=40.3km/s; K2=45.3km/s; V0=+25.3km/s; a1sin i=16.6Gm; a2sin i=18.7Gm; M1sin3i=1.00M☉; M2sin3i=0.89M☉. The ratio of the correlation dip areas indicates a magnitude difference {DELTA} mB∼0.9 between the components. The observational data (M1,2sin3i, {DELTA}m, MV, B-V and the spectrum) are consistent with spectral types G3-4V and G9V for the primary and secondary components respectively. The M1sin3i value, one solar mass, suggests strongly that i should be near 90o. This detached system (a=50R☉) thus might be an eclipsing one.
