Discovery of an X-ray pulsar in the LMC.

SCHMIDTKE P.C., COWLEY A.P., McGRATH T.K. and ANDERSON A.L.

Abstract (from CDS):

X-ray pulses, with a period of 4.0635 s, have been detected in ROSAT observations of the LMC Be-star source CAL E (= RXJ0502.9-6626) at the 96% confidence level. This makes CAL E the second known LMC pulsar associated with a Be star. Based on its pulsation period, it is expected that the orbital period of the binary may be near 30 days, which is consistent with limited photometric and spectroscopic studies, which have been carried out.
