The Cepheid-based distance scale.

DI BENEDETTO G.P. and LATTANZI M.G.

Abstract (from CDS):

Cepheids are probably the most important standard candles known today, and accurate distances to Cepheids are a critical step in establishing the extragalactic distance scale and, therefore, in the accurate measurement of H0. The present day situation is briefly reviewed and the potentially key role of the GAIA mission discussed.
