Gamma-ray bursts: afterglow, high-energy cosmic rays, and neutrinos.

WAXMAN E.

Abstract (from CDS):

The recent discovery of delayed, low-energy emission, ``afterglow'', from gamma-ray burst (GRB) sources confirmed the cosmological origin of the bursts and provided support for models in which GRBs are produced by the dissipation of the kinetic energy of relativistic fireballs. In this talk, I review the fireball model, outline the major open questions associated with GRB fireball physics, and discuss several phenomena that may be associated with cosmological fireballs: GRB afterglows, ultra-high-energy (>1019 eV) cosmic rays, and high-energy (∼1014) neutrinos.
