NEWTON J., CERAVOLO D. and PUCKETT T.

Abstract (from CDS):

J. Newton, D. Ceravolo, and T. Puckett report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.1) on CCD images taken with a 0.35-m reflector telescope at Portal, AZ, on 2005 Dec. 31.35 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object was confirmed at mag 15.6 by Puckett (remotely) on 2006 Jan. 2.24 with the 0.35-m reflector (mag 15.6). SN 2005la is located at R.A. = 7h01m36s.62, Decl. = +14o07'59".7 (equinox 2000.0), which is 1".6 west and 7".4 south of the center of UGC 3634. Nothing was visible at this position on images taken by Puckett on 2005 Nov. 15 (limiting mag 19.7), or on images taken during the last six years by Puckett.
