Supernova 2006gc in UGC 3219.

BLONDIN S., MODJAZ M., KIRSHNER R., CHALLIS P. and BERLIND P.

Abstract (from CDS):

S. Blondin, M. Modjaz, R. Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrogram (range 350-740 nm) of SN 2006gc (cf. CBET 628, IAUC 8750), obtained by P. Berlind on Sept. 19.50 UT with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a type-II supernova roughly one month past explosion. The spectrum consists of P-Cyg lines of the Balmer series, consistent with the plateau phase of a normal type-II supernova. Adopting a recession velocity of 8481 km/s for the host galaxy (from de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991, Third Ref. Cat. of Bright Galaxies), the maximum absorption in the H_beta line (rest 486.1 nm) is blueshifted by roughly 9500 km/s.
