Supernova 2008gl in UGC 881.

PRIETO J.L.

Abstract (from CDS):

J. L. Prieto, Ohio State University, reports that optical spectra (range 410-750 nm) of 2008gl (cf. CBET 1545) were obtained with the Hiltner 2.4-m telescope (+ Modspec) at MDM Observatory on Oct. 22.3 UT. Cross- correlation with a library of supernova spectra using SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows that 2008gl is a normal type-Ia supenova around maximum light. An expansion velocity of 13300 km/s is derived from the absorption minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm feature, using a recession velocity of 10198 km/s for the host galaxy, UGC 881 (Huchra et al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287).
