Abstract (from CDS):
D. Sand, Center for Astrophysics and Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network; M. L. Graham, University of Victoria; S. Herbert-Fort and D. Just, Steward Observatory; C. Bildfell, C. J. Pritchet, and H. Hoekstra, University of Victoria; and S. Sivanandam and D. Zaritsky, Steward Observatory, report the discovery of five supernovae on g'- and r'-band images obtained at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (+ Megacam). The Megacam photometry given below all have uncertainty within ± 0.1 mag. -----------------------------------------------------------------------— SN 2008 UT R.A. The apparent host galaxy for 2008hc has g' = 20.51 ± 0.04 and r' = 19.85 ± 0.04. The apparent host galaxy for 2008hd has g' = 21.61 ± 0.02 and r' = 21.11 ± 0.02. The apparent host galaxy for 2008he has g' = 19.25 ± 0.02 and r' = 18.64 ± 0.03. The apparent host galaxy for 2008hf has g' = 22.88 ± 0.07 and r' = 21.45 ± 0.02. Additional r' magnitudes are tabulated below, together with spectroscopic results. Additional magnitudes for 2008hd on Oct. 27: g' = 22.3, r' = 21.2. Spectroscopic confirmation was obtained with the Blue Channel Spectrograph on the MMT; the publicly available Supernova Identification code of Blondin and Tonry (2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) was utilized in the analysis. The spectra, finding charts, and discovery images are all available upon request. The spectrum of 2008hd is similar to that of the peculiar type-Ia supernova 2000cx around maximum light.
