Supernova 2008ie in NGC 1070.

NAKANO S.

Abstract (from CDS):

S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the independent discovery of 2008ie at mag 16.9 by Yoji Hirose (Tsutsumi, Chigasaki, Kanagawa-ken, Japan) on fourteen unfiltered CCD frames (limiting mag 17.5) taken around Dec. 15.56 UT using a 0.35-m f/6.8 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. Hirose provided position end figures 21s, 20", with offset 13" west and 15" north of the center of the galaxy. Nakano measured a JPEG image supplied by Hirose, finding position end figures 20s.84, 19".2 for 2008ie, corresponding to 21" west and 12".5 north of the center of NGC 1070. Nothing is visible at this position on Hirose's survey frames taken on Nov. 20 (limiting magnitude 18) and Dec. 3 (limiting magnitude 17.5) or on the Digitized Sky Survey.
