DRAKE A.J., DJORGOVSKI S.G., MAHABAL A., GRAHAM M.J., WILLIAMS R., CATELAN M., BESHORE E.C., LARSON S.M. and CHRISTENSEN E.

Abstract (from CDS):

Further to CBET 2090, A. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, A. Mahabal, M. J. Graham, and R. Williams, California Institute of Technology; M. Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; E. C. Beshore and S. M. Larson, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona; and E. Christensen, Gemini Observatory, report the CRTS discovery of a supernova in unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------— SN 2009 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset ---------------------------------------------------------------------------— 2009mv Dec. 16.32 7 15 39.74 +35 14 28.5 17.4 1".1 E, 4".6 S ---------------------------------------------------------------------------—

Nothing was visible at this position on a CSS image from Nov. 25.43 UT (limiting mag 18.5). A spectrogram (range 390-800 nm) of 2009mv was obtained with the Palomar 5-m reflector (+ DBSP) on Dec. 19.35; cross- correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) shows 2009mv to be most similar to the peculiar type-Ia supernova 2006gz at five days past maximum light.
