T. Crowley, J. Newton, and T. Puckett report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.6) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 19.0) taken with a 0.35-m reflector at Portal, AZ, U.S.A., on Nov. 9.152 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object, which was confirmed on Nov. 11.089 at mag 17.2 on images (limiting mag 19.1) taken by R. Post with a 0.43-m reflector at Trenton, ME, U.S.A., is located at R.A. = 22:08:52.44, Decl. = +40:20:24.0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 20".8 west and 27".3 south of the center of UGC 11922. Nothing is visible at this position on images taken by Puckett on 2011 Nov. 19 (limiting mag 19.4). A finder image is posted at website URL http://www.possdata.com/PSNJ22085244+4020240.jpg. The variable was designated PSN J22085244+4020240 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2012gi based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below.
