The Far-ultraviolet Variability of the Early A-type Star HD 1280 (θ And).

MONIER R.

Abstract (from CDS):

The analysis of two spectra of the early A-type star HD 1280, recorded by the SWP camera on board the International Ultraviolet Explorer, reveals large variations of the far-ultraviolet flux shortwards of 1850 Å. The amplitude of these variations increases toward shorter wavelengths. In contrast, the mid-ultraviolet flux from 2200 up to 3000 Å is constant in the available spectra collected with the LWP camera. These variations could be due to large horizontal chemical or thermal gradients over the stellar surface, or stellar pulsation, or the presence of a companion.
