Correcting the Coordinates for Old Novae V707 Sco and V721 Sco.

SCHAEFER B.E.

Abstract (from CDS):

V707 Sco (Nova Sco 1922) and V721 Sco (Nova Sco 1950 no. 3) were both faint, poorly observed, classical novae near the Sting of the Scorpion. Both have substantially incorrect cataloged coordinates. I have recovered the correct coordinates by going back to the original Harvard archival plates. V707 Sco is at J2000 17:48:25.31, -36:36:37.0. V721 Sco is at J2000 17:42:14.62, -34:41:41.0. With these new positions, deep searches should turn up the quiescent counterparts, with their study adding to the large program of measuring the demographics of novae.
